Gothic drama  

Walk around the beautiful Lews Castle, an imposing Gothic-revival style castle. Commissioned by Sir James Matheson in the mid-1800s, it’s been fully restored to its former glory. Admire the castle’s turrets and towers and enjoy its spectacular location with views over the Atlantic Ocean and towards Stornoway. Then visit the Museum nan Eilean and learn about the inhabitants of the Outer Hebrides.

  • Remarks/requirements: Appropriate warm, waterproof clothing and comfortable walking shoes. 

  • Walking information: Approximately 2km.  Mostly on level terrain with some uneven and sometimes wet ground with multiple steps.
