Island of salt
Colourful Sal Rei got its name from its salt production, a major industry for many years. Stroll the pastel-coloured town and visit the bustling municipal market. Walk by the quaint church Sao Isabel and visit the Centre for Art and Culture, CAC. Then admire Sal Rei’s beautiful beaches, and scout for the islet with the ruins of Forte Duque de Bragança, built to protect the town from pirate attacks.
