Available all year
Motor assisted canoeing on the Chilkoot Lake.
Fantastic photo opportunities.
Explore inlets, coves and salmon spawning.
Picnic on the beach.
This half-day excursion, which includes 1.5 hours on the water, begins by embarking on a scenic drive from downtown Haines past Lutak Inlet and into the Chilkoot River Valley. At Chilkoot Lake, you’ll begin with a safety briefing, paddling instruction and a fitting for a personal flotation device. You’ll be stepping into a Voyageur canoe, which is stable, comfortable and quiet; perfect for observing nature’s splendor and the wildlife that abounds in peaceful Chilkoot Lake. These motor-assisted canoes are built using similar dimensions as the canoes used by trappers and gold miners at the turn of the century. Powered by either paddle or motor, the Voyageur canoes offers the opportunity to paddle in the serenity of Chilkoot Lake and let the motor do the work when it is time for relaxing and taking photographs. You’ll be out on the water for about 1.5 hours exploring the inlets, coves, salmon spawning streams and numerous waterfalls that spill off the mountains into the lake. After enjoying the beautiful views on the lake, we’ll return to Haines and serve a picnic-style lunch at an ocean beach location.
Included: Picnic lunch – A variety of sandwiches, chips, cookies, fruit, hot and cold drinks.
Remarks/requirements: Appropriate warm layered clothing and rainproof jacket.
