Look out from atop a volcanic crater, hike stunning coastal trails, and explore underground caves. 
  • Walk around the stunning volcanic crater Saxhóll

  • Visit Djúpalónssandur black pebble beach and the cave at the beachside

  • Take a journey underground and learn where Jules Verne found inspiration for his famous sci-fi novel


Inspirational scenes 

After a scenic drive, we’ll arrive at the stunning black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur. Take in the magnificent views from the clifftop and look out for the ancient labyrinth.   

Then we’ll descend 115 ft underground at Vatnshellir Cave to begin our 45-minute cave adventure. Revel in the amazing array of colours and remarkable lava formations.      

Finally, we’ll walk among the otherworldly craters at Saxhóll. Hike up to the main crater for incredible views of Snæfellsjökull.

Practical information

  • Included: Private coach, guide, refreshments and caving. 

  • Remarks/requirements: Approximately 3 hrs total driving time. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, warm clothing and gloves. The underground temperature is approx. 6°c. Helmets and flashlights are provided.  

  • Walking or Activity information: Involves moderate physical activity on loose gravel, mud paths and paved surfaces, including some steps and inclines. There is a 10-minute climb up to the crater and irregular steps down into the cave.  

  • Wheelchair accessible: No 

  • Language availability: English and German
