MS Roald Amundsen - COVID-19 update

With reference to the press release regarding positive tests of COVID-19 on the MS Roald Amundsen docked in Tromsø, Norway:

On Friday the 31st of July it was confirmed that 4 crew members on the MS Roald Amundsen had tested positive for COVID-19. The initial four crew members that were confirmed infected were isolated several days earlier because of other disease symptoms, showing no symptoms of COVID-19. They were routinely tested before being admitted to hospital in Tromsø, Norway Friday morning.

Over the weekend, all 158 crew members were tested and another 32 crew members did test positive while the remaining 122 tested negative. None of the 32 crewmembers that tested positive in the second wave of testing showed any symptoms of COVID-19.

As of August 2nd, 4 guests have tested positive. A significant number of guests have tested negative.

The ship is currently docked in Tromsø with no guests on board, only quarantined crew members. MS Roald Amundsen was scheduled to sail to Svalbard on the 31st of July. That voyage is now cancelled.

Hurtigruten focuses all available relevant resources around taking care of our guests and colleagues. We are working closely with the Norwegian National Institute of Public Health, the municipality of Tromsø and local health authorities for follow-up, information, further testing, and infection tracking.The short-term financial implications for Hurtigruten is limited as the revenue booked on MS Roald Amundsen for the period 31st of July to the 18th of October is approx. EUR 1.7m.
