Experience a Sami experience in a small Sami village, Maze, with local reindeer herders! The Sami, the indigenous people in northern Norway, have a vibrant and colorful culture, both past and present. This tour provides an opportunity for guests to learn more about their old ways and modern life.
  • Hosted by local Sami reindeer herders.

  • Located in small Sami Village Maze.

  • Traditional Sami Festival meal.

The group will travel by guided bus to the tiny Sami village of Maze, around an hour's journey south of Alta. Along the way, their guide will entertain the travelers with stories about many aspects of the history and life in Alta and Norway. The guests will have an opportunity to talk and get to know local reindeer herders and their way of life. Along with a Sami Traditional lunch (a reindeer and potato stew called "bidos"), the group will also hear stories about old Sami traditions and modern life. They will even have the chance to hear joiking, the ancient-sounding Sami form of singing. The tour requires about 75 meters of walking between the bus and the activity area. Participants will sit on reindeer hides on the ground.

*While we're excited to share the unique flavours of this region with you, it’s important to note that allergy awareness and hygiene standards can vary widely across the world. The local community providing food for this tour may not be as familiar with allergy concerns or preparation standards as suppliers in your home country or the expert chefs onboard our ships. As a precaution, we advise anyone with a severe food allergy to contact a member of the onboard Expedition Team before booking this excursion.
