Visit Theodor Kittelsen’s childhood home which has been turned into a small, charming museum. Theodor Kittelsen is a Norwegian artist known for his interpretation of mythical creatures and fairytales.  Kittelsenhuset is situated in the centre of Kragerø, among charming narrow streets and lanes.

He was born on the second floor, and as a child he felt as if the distance between the kitchen stove and the living room window was infinite.

Welcome to the small house in the centre of Kragerø, where the renowned fairytale illustrator Theodor Kittelsen was born in 1857. You will have the possibility to view the exhibitions, to visit the museum shop selling beautiful books, prints and publications and to learn the story of Therdor Kittelsen.

There were adventures around every corner in my old hometown. Strange old wooden buildings with gossip mirror outside the windows and tall chimneys with rusty, creaking weather vanes. – Theodor Kittelsen. Folk and Trolls. Memories and Dreams.
