The Polar Museum

Following its establishment as the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ in the late 19th century, Tromsø became a base for many polar expeditions. The Polar Museum conveys stories related to Tromsø’s Arctic history.

The Polar Museum’s permanent exhibitions deal with seal hunting, overwintering, trapping (including stories of famous trappers like Henry Rudi and Wanny Wolstad), and the expeditions of Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen.
