From the dock, your bus will take you on a relaxing 50-minute drive up the Haines Highway, a National Scenic Byway, to the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.You’ll see historic Haines and Fort William H. Seward on this narrated drive. Watch for moose and swans in the marshlands as you head up the Chilkat River Valley. At the preserve, experienced guides await to begin your rafting adventure (easy flow, no whitewater). Float silently on the river aboard 18-foot inflatable rafts. It’s the best way to observe eagles feeding on the plentiful salmon. Bears and wolves are also frequent guests at the feast. Along with its rich wildlife, the preserve is also incredibly beautiful, with towering mountains, hanging glaciers, and lush forests.After the river float, enjoy a picnic. Then you will board the bus and return to the pier in Haines.
