Whisky Island 

Join a local guide for a heritage walk through Port Ellen and out along the main way toward Laphroaig Distillery.  Discover more about Islay whisky, local history, as well as life on the island today. At the picturesque inlet of Sròn Dubh admire the coastal views and visit the MacDougall monument, atop a grassy mound overlooking the sea.  See the iconic white storehouses of the Laphroaig distillery known for its peated, smoky malts. And, of course, keep an eye out for wildlife as you walk along.  

Practical information

  • Remarks/requirements: Appropriate warm waterproof clothing and comfortable walking shoes.  

  • Walking or Activity information: need distance, duration, terrain, difficulty and level of fitness required.  Approximately 6 km.  Mainly flat with some inclines along tarmac path.  At the end of the guided walk, you can choose to return on foot to pier (please allow 45 minutes to walk back from Laphroaig Distillery to the port) or continue for a further 2km to discover the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.
