Explore coastal Brazil
Encounter life along Brazil's southern coast. Blessed with bustling cities, sun-soaked beaches and rich coastal rainforests, this is an exotic 7-day expedition.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Your expedition starts in famed Rio de Janeiro. Beautifully set between ocean and mountains, Rio is the home of Carnival, samba, Copacabana Beach, and excursions to Sugarloaf and Corcovado.
As we sail towards Paranagua, you are free to spend the day as you wish on board our comfortable ship. Familiarize yourself with the ship and its facilities, join our Expedition team for exciting lectures and talks, spend time on deck enjoying the tropical temperatures and scout for wildlife as we make our way further south.
In the morning, we reach Paranagua, Brazil's most important harbour for the export of agricultural goods. This day focuses on Brazil´s amazing nature in the tropical rain and coastal forests. Perhaps you will choose the tourist train “Serra Verde Express”, that takes a slow and comfortable journey through spectacular mountain scenery? Or maybe you will prefer to go to Salto Morato for bird watching, passing clear rivers and spectacular waterfalls? In the evening you will have a lot to share when you join the other passengers in the lounge and talk about your day in Brazilian nature.
After a full day in Paranauga, we make our way further south towards Rio Grande do Sul. This is another day to relax with a good book overlooking the ocean, soaking up the sun or enjoying the Jacuzzis (whirlpools) on deck.
Throughout the course of the trip, our Expedition team will hold lectures on interesting topics such as history, biology, and geology. They will also update you on the progress of the trip as well as on any wildlife sightings that may occur.
Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
On our last day in Brazil, we provide the chance to learn more about Brazil's avifauna. Brazil has one of the richest populations of bird species in the world. The lagoons in the surroundings of Rio Grande do Sul are famous for birds such as Waders. Some are native to Brazil, while others overwinter here after migration from the north. Even if you are not a “birder”, you will be fascinated by this special and truly rare natural wonder.
At sea/Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo has a sly sophistication and surprising cultural diversity for such a small population, boasting a picturesque blend of colonial Spanish, Italian and Art Deco architectural styles. Montevideo may be the only large city in Uruguay, but it's also one of South America's most interesting centres. Home to almost half of the nation's population, Montevideo is Uruguay’s capital and a modern metropolis with a historic old town dating back to colonial times. Visit the Ciudad Vieja (Old Town) with its 18th century buildings, the vibrant Mercado del Puerto, the bustling Avenida 18 de Julio with its numerous theatres, museums and art galleries, and the stretch of white, sandy beaches surrounding the city.
We arrive in Montevideo in the evening. Spend time with family, old friends, new friends and our friendly Expedition team, and enjoy the farewell dinner.
Our fantastic expedition ends here in Montevideo. You are welcome to join our optional excursions in the Post program.
