Planned itinerary Pre-programme
Day 1:Santiago de Chile
Overnight, incl. breakfast at hotel in Santiago de Chile.
Day 2: Santiago de Chile / San Pedro Atacama
Morning transfer to Santiago de Chile airport and direct flight to Calama. From here you will be transferred to San Pedro de Atacama, located 2,400m above sea level. The transfer through the Atacama desert takes approx. 1.5 hours. San Pedro is a small village with narrow alleys and traditional adobe houses, known as the archaeological capital of Chile.
Enjoy a little snack upon arrival. Before dinner join an Astronomical Tour with a hotel guide offering explanatory talk, observation at a glance with a telescope and learning to recognize the main constellations of the stars.
Dinner at the hotel. Get a good night´s sleep.
Day 3-4: San Pedro de Atacama
Breakfast at your hotel. Take the opportunity to relax at the hotel swimming pool or choose from a variety of full day and half day excursions offered by the hotel. Discover the geysers, saltpans, High Andean lagoons and other geological and archeological sites in the area. An experienced team of guides accompanies the excursions. There are also bikes available to explore the nearby landscape and San Pedro on your own.
Just to name some of the experiences including the Astronomical Tour that you can register for at the hotel (subject to availability, timing and weather):
Moon Valley, approximately at 16:00-19:30 Declared a Sanctuary of Nature and Natural Monument. Climb the Duna Mayor (Major Dune) which provides a beautiful view of the Cordillera de la Sal, the Valley of Death and the Salt Flats, among many other sights with the dramatic sunset in the background. Time allowing, this excursion can already be taken on day of your arrival in the hotel. Including a cocktail.
Tatio Geysirs, approximately at 05:30-12:00 Located at a height of 4,300 m above sea level and at approx. 89 km from San Pedro de Atacama. Drive through the geothermal field where you can see geysers and fumaroles. Continue to Machuca and look out for vicuñas and flamingos. This tour is including breakfast.
Archeological Tour, half day You will visit the archeological site of Tulor - the oldest vestige and first human settlement in the Atacama Salt Flat, learning about the history and evolution of the Atacameño people.
Lunch and dinner at the hotel. Overnight.
Day 5: San Pedro de Atacama/Santiago
You will be transferred back to Calama Airport in the morning. Flight back to Santiago de Chile and transfer to your hotel.
The following overnight is part of your Antarctica voyage.

The price includes one hotel night incl. breakfast in Santiago de Chile, three nights at Hotel Cumbres San Pedro de Atacama, incl. full board and open bar from 11:00-23:00 (house beverages), return flight Santiago de Chile to Calama, incl. current taxes, airport transfers in Santiago and Calama/San Pedro, two half day and one full day excursion with English-speaking guide, use of spa, heated swimming pool and hot tubs. The hotel night one day prior to embarkation is part of your ship voyage.
Not included: Meals on day 1 (Santiago), gratuities.
