Spitsbergen Hotel

With modern comfort in historic surroundings, Spitsbergen Hotel offers a unique Svalbard experience.

Situated on "The Hill", it gives you great views of Longyearbyen, the Lars- and Longyear glacier. The hotel was constructed in 1947, but has been extensively refurbished over the years.

A historical hotel

The hotel was originally built as an accommodation and dining area for employees of Store Norske Spitsbergen Coal Company. It was also the company’s official representational building. Its interior and architecture made it Longyearbyen’s grandest construction.

The hotel is preserved and decorated using its history. It's well worth walking through the corridors and public areas to look at the historical photographs and pictures, old maps and newspaper stories.

The hotel has 88 rooms, 5 suites and superior rooms. All rooms are of high standard and several of them are decorated using historic interiors such as the Store Norske-suite and the Bergmester-suite. All rooms have a coffee machine, bathrobes and slippers. Spitsbergen Hotel is a non-smoking hotel.

Funktionærmessen Restaurant

Funktionærmessen Restaurant was opened in the Spring of 2000, and has a fantastic view of the town, the Longyear Glacier and Hiorthfjellet on the far side of the Adventfjord. We are proud that Funktionærmessen Restaurant is ranged as the 19th best restaurant by the White Guide Nordic!

The restaurant gets its inspiration from the French kitchen, and you will discover a carefully planned selection of wines and dishes that tempt you with both taste and appearance.

Funktionærmessen Restaurant seats approximately 100 guests. There is also a banqueting room adjacent to the restaurant, seating up to 40 guests. We cater for any need and for festive occasions, with long tables laid with linen and silver cutlery.

Det Gamle Nordpolet

A Champagne tasting at det gamle Nordpolet is the ultimate aperitiff before enjoying a delicious meal at Funktionærmessen Restaurant. The tasting includes three selected Champagnes, canapées and well-versed staff to explain both the vintages and the location to you.

We have rooms for meetings and conferences, from small to large groups. All our facilities are equipped with modern presentation tools and material.
