Join this excursion to discover the main historical landmarks of Forteleza, including Beira Mar Avenue. This street is one of the main streets of the city, and where the craft fair, the statue of Iracema, and Mucuripe are located. Mucuripe is a neighborhood by the port, and of artistic, historical, and economic importance to the city.
Then you'll be driven along the Praia do Futuro beach, the most frequented beach of the city. In Aldeota, an upscale neighborhood, we'll find Dom Luis Avenue (a tribute to the first archbishop of Fortaleza), Portugal Square (a tribute to mariners and Portuguese colonists), Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Líbano (Our Lady of Lebanon church, the only orthodox church in the city), and the mausoleum of former president Humberto De Alencar Castelo Branco.
In the bohemian neighborhood of Praia de Iracema (the ‘place of the eternal lovers’) you'll find numerous bars, restaurants, the famous Pirata bar, and you’ll make a stop at the Ponte dos Ingleses bridge, more commonly known as ‘Ponte Métalica’ or the ‘Metal Bridge’. You'll also stop by the Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura cultural center in the downtown area, where you'll also find the central market.
You'll also stop at the Schoonemborch fort, the fort within which the village originated, and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Fortaleza, and pass by Passeio Público, the first public square of the city, the former public jailhouse (and a craft center today), and the railway station.
