Norway’s vast coastline has an uncountable number of fjords that were carved out by glaciers during the Ice Age. The Ersfjord is a hidden pearl of a fjord, surrounded on both sides by high mountains that plunge right into the water. The steep mountainsides funnel waterfalls downward, and small beaches invite you to come ashore. The landscape is spectacular and powerful.
The Ersfjord is located on Kvaløya Island, outside of Tromsø. From the ship, we will take a bus through the city to Kvaløya Island. Here Hurtigruten’s custom-made explorer boats are waiting for us. Our enthusiastic expedition team will lead the way on an afternoon of exploring the fjord in the spirit of the Norwegian tradition of ‘friluftsliv’, (which means‘outdoor life’ and reflects Norwegians’ passion for the outdoors).Comfortably speeding along the water, we will explore the hidden places of this scenic fjord set amongst the spectacular mountains. The photo opportunities are never-ending.
We will go ashore on a beautiful beach. While we enjoy a snack, the expedition team will share stories of the people of Ersfjord and how they adapted to the extreme and beautiful natural world of their forefathers.
The area is alive with nature, and you can go for a short hike to gain elevation and find an even better view of the fjord. Or, simply enjoy some time on the beach. But if you have a real Viking spirit, go for a dip in the Arctic waters!
