Explore Giske, known as ‘saga island’, said to be the birthplace of the Viking chieftain Rollo, ancestor of William the Conqueror, who invaded and founded Normandy in 911. The island was the seat of one of Norway’s most powerful noble families. Pass the Giske Church, made of marble, dating back to around 1150. At one time, it was the Giske family chapel. Experience the island of Godøy, whose picturesque fishing village of Alnes faces the Atlantic Ocean. Relax with coffee and homemade cake by the lighthouse. Why not go all the way to the top? The views are spectacular! Before returning to Ålesund, we will head to Mount Aksla to enjoy breath-taking views of the town and the surrounding mountains and Islands.
