Storehesten ("the big horse") mountain is a characteristic landmark in the Sunnfjord region. This 1209-meter-high figure looms high over the inner parts of the Dalsfjord, a historic Viking landscape. We will walk all the way up to its peak.
A hard walk, but a worthwhile view
From the car parking area, we will hike the well-marked trail all the way to the top of the mountain. The trip is 11 kilometres long, with a vertical climb of 780 metres. Three hours of walking will get us to the top. From there, we will have a fantastic view all round. The Ålfot Glacier will be to the north. To the east will be the Jostedal Glacier, Northern Europe's largest. To the south will be the mountains that surround the city of Bergen. And to the west, we will be able to see the North Sea.
After a break at the mountaintop, we will walk back down to meet our ship. This is a great hike and a local guide will be with us all the way.
