Akureyri - Off the Beaten Track
Dare to venture off the beaten track! This tour offers sights not seen by the usual tours. Our 4x4 Super Jeeps offer the chance for fun and excitement as we discover some of the best of the island.
Departing from Akureyri our Super Jeeps take us first to Goðafoss - the “Waterfall of the Gods”, considered one of Iceland’s most beautiful, to enjoy the cascade and learn a little about its interesting history.
To Lake Mývatn
We continue to the magical Lake Mývatn, then drive off-road to reach the crater of Lúdent, where we will take in the incredible view from its rim over the surrounding area, before enjoying a 2-course lunch at a local restaurant.
At Lake Mývatn, we will stop at some selected attractions and make photo stops.
The Valleys and Waterfalls of Iceland
As our journey continues, we travel through remote heaths and valleys until we reach Bárðardalur Valley, where Skjálfandafljót River – a white glacial river originating from the Vatnajökull glacier, (the largest ice cap in Iceland) runs towards the sea, carving out magnificent riverbeds on its way. Situated at the edge of the Highlands we find the breathtaking Aldeyjarfoss waterfall, where whitewater cascades from a high cliff into a ravine lined with black basalt columns.
From this waterfall, we’ll drive down the valley and towards Akureyri, - through a birch and flowered-covered area named Vaglaskógur Forest, with a brief photo stop enroute.
The last part of our excursion takes us along an abandoned mountain road that winds its way up and over a 1,950 ft high mountain, providing great views on both sides.
