We start out from Akureyri, where the a "super jeep" (a customized SUV) takes you through an old mountain road leading to the birch and flower covered Vaglaskógur forest. There will be a brief photo stop here and some time to enjoy the sounds of the singing birds and rustling leaves.
Follow a glacial river
Skjálfandafljót River is a white glacial river that begins up in the Vatnajökull glacier, the largest ice cap in Iceland. This bright turquoise and white river runs through the highlands, carving out magnificent riverbeds on its way. We will be driving along this beautiful river until we reach Bárðardalur Valley, where we'll make a stop at a local guesthouse. Here, you can meet the locals and visit an exhibition dedicated to the outlaws who once lived in the lava fields and roamed these vast highlands.
Amazing waterfalls and lunch
Next, it's time to see Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall, where white water cascades from a high cliff into a ravine lined with black basalt columns. From the waterfall, we drive along a mountain road that leads to the magical Lake Mývatn. Admire the incredible view from the craters at Skútustaðir, before having lunch at a local restaurant. After, we head back to Akureyri, with a stop at Goðafoss, "Waterfall of the Gods".
