Fun and lively walk over the lava with a local. The guide goes through the history of the eruption in 1973. Tells you story ́s of the people and gives you a glimpse into the lives of the local people building up the town afterwards and living on the island today.
We start the tour from the harbor and walk to Skansinn, there is the replica of the old fort from the 17th century and near there is the wooden church and Landlyst, the oldest house on the island that has a lot of history. From Skansinn we walk up a small hill and walk over the new lava that was formed in the dramatic eruption in 1973. A local guide tells you about the eruption, the story when the people had to leave their home in one night, and the 5000 inhabitants had to evacuate the island. We walk on the edge of the lava where there is a great view over the town. Return to the harbour through the center of town.
