Departure is by bus from the harbour in Angra do Heroísmo. The first stop will be at the viewpoint of Pico das Cruzinhas in Monte Brasil, a protected landscape in Angra do Heroísmo and one of the most beautiful sights on the Island. From here, you can take in the view of the city and surrounding areas.
The tour continues to Angra do Heroísmo, the capital of Terceira, also called the `City of Lords´. It’s centre dates from the 16th century and is laced with small streets, alleys, churches, palaces, manor houses, monuments, squares and gardens, many built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Angra served as the crossing point between Europe, Africa and the Americas for over three centuries. The town was declared an Historic World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. There are several monuments worthy of a visit, such as Sé Catedral, Paços do Concelho and Praça Velha.
You’ll then continue to the lovely São Sebastião, a historic village located on the eastern coast. São Sebastião is proud of its heritage, with monuments such as the Mother Church, famous for its Manueline portals and late-medieval frescos.
The tour continues from there, taking the mountain road to Serra do Cume for a photo stop, to capture the patchwork of small farms, stone walls and forests that characterise the region.
You will also stop at Miradouro do Facho, an authentic `balcony over the city´, where you can see the long beach at Praia da Vitoria Bay as well as the busy life of the dock and fishing harbours, before returning to your ship.
