The lovely Galician city of Santiago de Compostela has many surprises. After crossing the heart of Galicia from La Coruña to reach Santiago, your guide will share with you some of the region's history, a perfect prelude to the sights that await you in the city.
Santiago's biggest story is Saint James the Apostle, whose remains are interred inside the cathedral. Built in a confluence of Romanesque, Ogival Gothic and Baroque architectural styles, the cathedral is a magnificent sight inside and out. During our visit, we view some of the highlights, including the Portico de la Gloria, and the silver urn containing Saint James' ashes.
After the cathedral, we take a guided walk through the quiet streets and picturesque squares of this elegant green city. We admire the modern heart of Santiago, the Plaza del Obradoiro, where Hostal de los Reyes Católicos and Palacio Rajoy are found. After the guided walking tour, some free time is made available before we board the bus and return to the ship in La Coruña.
