Often referred to as the birthplace of Portugal, Guimarães is one of Portugal’s most historical cities. This was where the first king of Portugal was born and also where the reconquest of Portugal from the Moors began. There are many historical monuments to see which is why UNESCO have added it to the list of their World Heritage sites.
