Gijón Coastal Walk
On this guided walking tour, we explore the coastline of Gijón to get an overview of the oldest and most-populated town in the north-western Spanish region of Asturias.
We start our tour at Gijón’s marina in order to discover the city’s old town. You will see the main squares of Gijón, the lovely Marqués Square, Revillagigedo Palace, and Plaza Mayor with its beautiful town hall.
Later, climb the charming narrow streets of Cimadevilla (the former fishermen’s quarter), to the top of Santa Catalina Hill to discover the well-known sculpture ‘El Elogio del Horizonte’, by Eduardo Chillida.
After enjoying the spectacular view, we continue along San Lorenzo beach where you will see and admire beautiful buildings such as the church of San Pedro and Valdes Palace.
Following the coastal path, you discover beautiful corners of the town like Rinconin Park and the emotionally touching sculpture called ‘La Madre del Emigrante’ before arriving at Mirador de la Providencia, a hilltop lookout that juts towards the sea with a bird’s-eye view of Gijón and the Cantabrian coastline. After pausing to take photos, you will be driven back to the port.
