Belle Ile, “La bien nommée,” is the largest of all Breton islands with a coastline of cliffs, creeks, and beaches that slope gently down on the island's North side, a wilderness that faces the open sea.

Leave Le Palais, Belle Île's main city, and board a bus for a tour of the wild coast. You will see Port Coton’s Needles; pyramids of rocks, shaped by the ocean where foam may fly like cotton balls on stormy days. Head on to the Pointe des Poulains, the Northern island cap, a place beloved by the artist Sarah Bernhardt, and have a look at Kervilahouen, a peaceful inland village where the impressionist painter Claude Monet painted the same stretch of coast 36 times, in all kinds of light and weather. Then you will reach Sauzon, a picturesque harbor over the entrance of a deep estuary, known for its colorful facades.

Then we reach the Eden Garden next to Sauzon. Brittany was the homeland of many explorers and was the starting point of prestigious expeditions.  Today, the area is known for gardens, as hundreds of varieties have been planted since the 18th century. Michel Damblant, the owner of the Eden Garden, will guide you through his amazing garden and share details about the fantastic adventures of the "plant explorers" of Brittany.

After your visit, drive back to Le Palais and walk back to the pier.
