Tour of Rabat, Morocco
Rabat, the imperial city and administrative capital of Morocco, is situated around 90 km north of Casablanca. Set in a rich, amber coloured landscape, dotted with distinctive nettle trees, it elegantly combines ancient history with modern culture.
Upon arrival in Rabat, visit of the Andalusian Gardens of the Kasbah of Oudayas, which are Rabat`s city walls and date back to the 17th century. In the maze of streets making up the Oudayas Kasbah, Islamic art rubs shoulders with the modern city. The result is a glittering mosaic, enchanting passers-by and answering to their every want. Afterwards we enjoy a refreshment near the Medina of Rabat.
Continue your tour with a visit to the prestigious Mausoleum of Mohammed V (considered as the eighth wonder of the world) built amidst a 12th century ruin of an unfinished mosque and tower. Hassan tower was intended to be the largest minaret in the world along with the mosque. In 1199, Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour died and the construction of the tower and mosque stopped.
Continue your tour to the outskirts of Rabat and visit of the Fortress of Chellah with its roman ruins and Merinides necropolis. Before you return back to Casablanca, pass by the king’s palace, built in the second half of the 18th century by Sultan Mohamed Ben Abdullah.
