Golfito was built in the 1930s as a company town providing housing and facilities for the employees of the United Fruit Company.

For more than 40 years, Golfito was the principal banana port of United Fruit in Costa Rica, but in 1985 labour strike and higher production costs convinced the company to abandon banana production in the area.

In April 1990 a duty-free shopping zone was opened in Golfito which attracts ticos (native Costa Ricans) as well as resident foreigners from all over the country.

As we drive, you will enjoy a live music show on board the bus.
