Dover Castle is an impenetrable fortress, hiding much of its mysteries within the chalk of the White Cliffs.  No fortress in England boasts a longer history than Dover Castle, where you can enjoy 900 years of history. Commanding the shortest sea crossing between England and the European mainland, the site has served as a vital strategic center since the Iron Age.

Begin your self-guided tour of the second level of tunnels used in Operation Dynamo. These tunnels tell a thrilling story of the Evacuation of Dunkirk, which was controlled and masterminded from the tunnels at Dover.

Discover fabulous views from this magnificent cliff-top location and explore this sizeable castle complex at your leisure. The castle’s information stewards will be on hand for questions and assistance throughout your visit. Immerse yourselves in the Castle’s rich history through a range of exciting exhibits designed to take guests back in time.  Spend time in the Castle itself with its Inner Bailey, Arthur’s Hall, and Henry II’s Great Tower. Then explore over 80 acres of grounds, featuring battlements, curtain walls, and other military features.

Take time to see the medieval tunnels and visit the ‘secret’ underground hospital. Explore the many rooms of the hospital, including triage, wards, and the operating room, as well as mess rooms and dormitories. Ponder how people felt in these very tunnels and appreciate how much these heroes did to win our freedom.

After your fascinating visit to the castle, board your bus again for the return journey to Dover.
