As an addition to our regular excursion programme, we sometimes offer the possibility to spend the night in a tent on the Falkland Islands. In the style of the great explorers, we venture out and camp on land, using top-of-the-line camping equipment. This a very rare opportunity to experience the natural beauty of spending a night on the remote islands of North West Falklands.
A hands-on camp experience
We begin with a pre-camp briefing by our experienced expedition staff, who will accompany you during this experience. When we pitch up camp after dinner, you are part of the experience, from beginning to end. If you have never set up a tent before, this is your chance to do it for the first time.
It may be that you are not quite ready to go to bed right after the camp has been set up. You can for example, sit outside the camp to take in the view and listen to the wildlife in the distance. If the weather permits, we might take a short walk to view points in the area or to other points of interest.
Protecting the fragile environment
The next morning, we dismantle our camp. As an IAATO member, Hurtigruten follows all guidelines associated with overnight stays ashore. We leave nothing behind and remove all signs of our stay, as much as is possible. This is important in order to protect wildlife and the generally fragile environment of the Antarctic region. The Polarcirkel boats pick us up and we return to the ship for a special breakfast on board after this unique experience.
