Discover the natural habitat of black and brown bears at the Anan Wildlife Observatory, located in the Tongass National Forest of Southeast Alaska. Naturalist guides escort you on this world-class wildlife viewing experience.

Your day begins with a scenic jet boat trip to the Observatory Trail Head. Look out for seals, dolphins, and the occasional orca or humpback whale feeding on herring, smelt and sand lance in the bays and currents along the way. Your guide continues your adventure by leading you through primeval rainforest, around a lagoon, to the waterfalls of Anan Creek. Look out for bears catching wild salmon or teaching their young to hunt. Overhead, eagles may be soaring in the sky. You may see other forest animals attracted to this rich food source as you walk down the trail and back to your covered and heated jet boat for the short trip back to the pier. There are outhouse facilities at the trailhead and the observatory platform.
