Experience the native culture of the Tlingit people and the Chilkat Valley on this unique visit to the ancient village of Klukwan. Your tour begins with a 45-minute scenic drive scenic drive through the Chilkat Valley and the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Soon, you’ll arrive in Klukwan, theEternal Villageof the Chilkat Tlingit people. Located at the confluence of three rivers, the village of Klukwan has a rich culture and history. For hundreds of years, the Chilkat Tlingit people have lived off the bounty of this special land. You will visit the state-of-the-art Jilkaat Kwaan Cultural Heritage Center. The Heritage Center is a window into the Chilkat’s distinctive ethnic landscape, with exhibits on their subsistence way of living, clan house artifacts, the legacy of Chilkat weaving, and more. Your village host will guide you through the educational exhibits and share personal experiences and insights along the way. Your visit to the Heritage Center culminates at the Whale Clan House of the Gaanaxteidi, where the world-famous collection of four totems and the Rain Wall Screen are displayed. Although the pieces are highly acclaimed by art connoisseurs, few people have seen the collection in person, until recently. Guests are invited to sit and enjoy the compelling history and stories of these exquisite pieces, often from one of the clan members themselves. The Heritage Center is situated in a stunningly beautiful location with incredible views. This serene setting gives you the opportunity to view the scenery and wildlife through special viewing telescopes and you will have time to visit the gift shop.
