You will hike the crater that the 2014 eruption formed, standing at an altitude of 6,760 feet. This is your opportunity to explore Caldeira’s most recent crater, which we call Pequeno Pico. You will get an idea of the destruction that the eruption caused to this area and observe the contrasting colors between the vegetation and the lava. The heat of the soil in some places and the smell of sulfur reminds us of the volcano’s recent activity and gives us a real sense of the destruction caused by lava flows.
