Day 1: Arrive in Dakar, Senegal’s capital
Arrive in Dakar, Senega one day before embarkation. You'll check into your hotel close to the harbour and city centre, and the rest of the day is yours. Relax and enjoy the amenities, or join an optional pre-bookable excursion.
Day 2: Visit Gorée Island / embarkation
After breakfast, a transfer will connect you to a privately chartered ferry that will take you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gorée Island. Its role in the transatlantic trade of enslaved people is movingly documented in Gorée Museum and La Maison Des Esclaves.
Your guide will recount fascinating histories as you stroll round the island, down baobab-shaded lanes and past colonial-era houses. There's an eerily peaceful atmosphere with no cars or bicycles, and only around 1,000 residents.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you'll take the ferry back to the mainland. The tour finishes at the port in Dakar in time for embarkation.
Please note we may visit sites in a different order.
