This excursion is a scenic exploration of the coast and countryside with a local host who will share historic stories of the region's rich land and sea and tell the history of Captain James Cook's skills as a navigator and Captain in Newfoundland.
  • Scenic beauty, rugged coastline.

  • The friendly people of the small community of Lark Harbour will delight during a “Church social” style refreshment stop at a small local church hall.

  • Tales of Captain Cook.

Before Captain Cook went on to discover New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii, this famous explorer learned his skills as a navigator and captain in Newfoundland. The route taken on this tour follows the scenic and rugged coastline which was first explored by Cook over 250 years ago and includes delightful fishing villages inhabited by people of English, Irish, French and Aboriginal descent. At Captain Cook’s Lookout (a National Historic Site), we will enjoy a view of the ship docked in Corner Brook Harbour.

Meet some of the locals as you explore the picturesque fishing villages of the Bay of Islands.  We stop in friendly Lark Harbour for refreshments (tea/coffee and local berry pastries). Nestled between mountains and ocean, Lark Harbour was named after one of Captain Cook’s ships, The HMS Lark, which he used to survey the region while spying on the French. We also view the lovely beach and sea cliffs of Bottle Cove at our trail’s end.
