Day 1
Cosmopolitan Reykjavik
Discover Iceland's modern capital
Your Greenland expedition cruise starts in Reykjavik – a vibrant city full of culture and history. Take a stroll down Laugavegur, to striking Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral, or visit one of the many art galleries and museums.
With so much to explore, why not come early and join one of our Pre-Programmes to the Golden Circle or Icelandic Highlands and discover Iceland's stunning waterfalls, hot springs, geysers and national parks.
MS Fridtjof Nansen awaits you in Reykjavik Harbour. Find your cabin, meet your Expedition Team, explore the ship and enjoy a relaxed welcome dinner as we set sail on your Greenland adventure.
Crossing the Denmark Strait
Day 2
Crossing the Denmark Strait
In the wake of Vikings
We sail to Greenland across the Denmark Strait, the route taken by Erik the Red, supposedly the first European to have settled there. Time to relax and explore the stylish onboard facilities of our hybrid-powered ship.
Your Expedition Team will explain the protocols of respectfully visiting wildlife habitats and indigenous Arctic communities. In the Science Center, you can learn more about Greenland's geology, or join one of our Citizen Science projects.
Then hit the gym, swim in the infinity pool, book a treatment in the Wellness Centre or enjoy a delicious meal in one of our three onboard restaurants.
Largest fjord on Earth
Day 3-7
Largest fjord on Earth
Explore the magnificent Scoresbysund fjord system
As Scoresbysund comes into view, your eyes will struggle to take it all in. This immense fjord system spans 24,000 square miles – over ten times the size of Germany's Black Forest.
We'll spend five days exploring the fjord's incredible wild and rugged landscape, dotted with blue and white icebergs, that perhaps surprisingly supports an abundance of wildlife.
Keep your eyes peeled for the animals that live in this part of Greenland – from Atlantic Puffins, Greenlandic Gyrfalcon, Little Auks, owls, and Fulmars to whales, seals, muskoxen and Arctic foxes.
Our Expedition Team will look out for the best nature-watching opportunities, so we can take our small expedition boats ashore or head out on kayaks, to see as much as possible. There'll be plenty of subjects for wildlife and landscape photographers, with our onboard photographer on hand to offer advice.
Amazing Arctic wildlife
Day 8-11
Amazing Arctic wildlife
Explore the world's most rarely visited national park
Next we’ll sail to the beautiful Northeast Greenland National Park – the world’s largest national park, and a UNESCO Biosphere reserve.
The fragile nature of this habitat means the park can only welcome a small number of visitors each year. Being included in this number is a rare privilege, one we respect and appreciate.
Among magnificent fjords and icebergs, we’ll keep a lookout for Arctic hares, musk oxen, and Arctic foxes – we might even see a polar bear.
As well as daily landings, you’ll be able to join optional activities like kayaking, guided walks, and even swimming – if you’re brave enough! While you're exploring, you can also contribute to valuable scientific research for our Citizen Science projects.
Sailing back to Iceland
Day 12
Sailing back to Iceland
Rest and relax as you cross the Irminger Sea
After exploring the ethereal, rugged beauty of Greenland, we'll cruise back to Iceland, rested, invigorated and more connected to nature. On deck, you might spot seabirds or whales following the ship.
Spend your time at sea sharing your experiences with new friends, recapping highlights with the Expedition Team, or discovering more about the delicate ecology of Greenland's fjord system in the Science Center. You might also choose to relax in the panoramic sauna, on-deck hot tubs or heated pool.
Return to Reykjavik
Day 13
Return to Reykjavik
Enjoy Reykjavik at your leisure
Your Iceland and Greenland expedition cruise concludes back in fascinating Reykjavik. Now is a great chance to see the places you missed when you first arrived. You can also join our Post-Programme to explore Iceland's beautiful South Coast, with waterfalls, black sand beaches, geothermal springs and majestic mountains.
Relaxing with friends in heittur pottur, public hot tubs, is part of Icelandic culture. Before you leave, visit Iceland’s most famous heitur pottur, the Blue Lagoon – one of National Geographic’s 25 wonders of the world – and experience the blend of silica, algae and minerals in its geothermal waters.
