Day 2: Reykjavik / Drive to Thorsmörk
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before leaving. Reykjavik in the morning and head to the Kerid Crater. Iceland is dotted with volcanic craters, and Kerid is one of the more dramatic. Created by an explosion followed by implosion of its cone, it now has a lake at is bottom. Continue your journey to the Geysir Geothermal Area with its multitude of hot springs, where the most active geyser, Strokkur, spouts every few minutes. Lunch will be served in the area. After lunch, you continue your drive to Gullfoss Waterfall. The ‘’Golden Waterfall’’ is the most famous of the country’s many waterfalls, located where the river Hvítá drops 32 meters into two falls, creating an awesome spectacle. Following your visit to Gullfoss you will head to your hotel in South Iceland.
Day 3: Thorsmörk
Enjoy a full day in Þórsmörk, often considered the most beautiful area in Iceland. Surrounded by glaciers and steep mountains covered in birch trees, the scenery in Þórsmörk offers a breathtaking view in every direction. On the way back, stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall.
Again, you will stay overnight at your hotel in South Iceland.
Day 4: Thorsmörk / Reykjavik, Embarkation
Depart from your hotel and drive towards the Secret Lagoon in Fludir, a natural hot spring located in the small village of Flúðir. The Secret Lagoon is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, built in 1891. Have a unique experience relaxing in warm water surrounded by several geothermal spots.
The pool’s natural surroundings and steam rising into the air gives the place a magical feeling. Whatever the weather it’s the perfect spot for relaxing in between sightseeing and enjoying Icelandic nature at its very best. Head to Fridheimar and you will be introduced to Icelandic agriculture – the local market greenhouse production. There you will meet a local family who will share the story of how their passion for horses and horticulture became the basis for their life’s work. Visit the greenhouse amidst the fragrant aroma of fresh tomato plants and the buzzing of worker bees. Then it’s “bon appetit” and lunch is served. Following Fridheimar, you will head towards beautiful Thingvellir National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your visit to the park allows you to experience one of Iceland´s most spectacular landscapes. The area is surrounded by mountains which shelter a vast lava plain of green moss and wild flowers.
Your pre-holiday programme ends at the pier in time for embarkation.
