This tour offers comfort and flexibility for guests who want to get away from the ship and search for the northern lights in one of the world’s prime aurora viewing regions. Guests travel to a campsite (selected based on local weather) in comfort and can wait outside or warm up indoors. Hot drinks and photography advice make for a pleasant vigil!
  • Easy tour – no herding of groups on and off a bus again and again to jump from place to place.

  • More than one location available – the tour balances needing a camp with picking the area around Alta most likely to have clear sky (one location is chosen for all guests for the evening).

  • Onboard briefing and presentation to guests prior to the tour.

The hunt for the northern lights begins with a briefing prior to departure by the host of the event. Through this brief and entertaining presentation, guests will learn a little about the Northern Lights, why Alta is a good place to hunt for them, and the chances of viewing them on this particular hunt. Guests will travel by guided bus to the location most likely to provide favourable weather. A camp will be set up with hot drinks, snacks, and limited shelter for the participants while they wait.

Guides on-site can provide help with camera settings to improve the photography results. Note: weather and astronomical factors cannot be guaranteed to provide a show for the guests on any given night. The best probability for clear skies may be at a location close to town – in that case, the transfer to those camps will be rather short.
