Arctic Train
  • Travel on Norway’s historic Ofoten Line to near the Swedish border

  • Marvel at sweeping fjord and mountain views north of the Arctic Circle.

  • Stop at remote stations Bjørnfjell and Katterat, steeped in Arctic wilderness.

  • Discover the enduring story of railway workers who shaped Narvik’s history.

Join the Arctic Train for an unforgettable journey through Norway’s far north, along the historic Ofoten Railway. Starting in Narvik, the line winds its way through rugged Arctic landscapes, climbing steep mountainsides and tracing a narrow shelf carved high above the glistening Rombak fjord. Built over a century ago in some of the world’s harshest conditions, this extraordinary railway is as much a story of human endurance as it is of engineering brilliance.

Along the way, you’ll pause at remote stations such as Bjørnfjell, surrounded by stark mountain beauty, and Katterat, a former railway community accessible only by train or foot. These stops allow you to step into the stillness of the high Arctic plateau and imagine what life was once like in this isolated wilderness.

As the train rolls on toward the Swedish border, you’ll hear stories of the workers who built the line and discover how it shaped Narvik’s history. This is more than a train ride — it’s a journey into the soul of the north.
